Alpine Health Leading The Way - August 2010

As the leading health services provider in the Victorian Alpine region, Alpine Health is leading the way in implementing programs that will fulfill their larger theme – “Improving Our Health” – into their own workplace, seeing the link between excellence in delivery and developing their people.

Under the inspired leadership of CEO Lyndon Seyse and HR Manager Nick Shaw, Alpine Health has embraced new strategies to strengthen leadership throughout the organization. They have implemented and enjoyed the whole person approach of The High Performance Leadership Coach Program, which includes a focus on personal health, balance and wellbeing.

With their total reliance on people to deliver health outcomes for the community fits well to combine new perspectives on leadership thinking and build leadership expertise across the organization as mentioned below by some of the managers of Alpine Health.

“This program facilitated very powerful changes in relationships and created different levels of intimacy between the people on the course. The course strengthened bonds which normally you don’t get to experience.” Kate Duff Executive Officer

One of the keys to keeping service development and organizational improvement lively is to facilitate  the discussion of ideas and collect the best ideas  from within the team and then bring the team to a decision that everyone agrees to. By creating a coaching culture new opportunities to motivate and increase staff engagement and enthusiasm arise.

“This course is effective because of its structure of workshops and the one on ones. This enables you have time to think, plan and enhance your ‘think’ time. The best investment that Alpine Health has ever made in its staff, and I’m very proud to have been part of the course.” Vicky Southgate Nurse Unit Manager- Hawthorn Village Bright

By taking a new look at communication strategies through the one on one coaching leadership model  this process has strengthened and enlivened the dynamic skills that were already present in the managers, team leaders and nursing fraternity.

“It has given me an idea of what to strive for. I have gone from a peer to a leader and am stepping up. I did not value what I was already doing, it has been reaffirmed. I feel very privileged to have been part of the program. When I went into it I knew nothing, now I feel I have a broad understanding of leadership.”
Mandy Barter District Nursing Case Manager

New performance management systems including The High Performance Leadership Coach Program have been implemented to support their already highly skilled staff thereby building capacity to lead change and manage the new and innovative service delivery through 2010 and beyond.
